I’m Stephen Renwick, an ACT therapist offering online and telephone therapy. I work with adults who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or held back by anxiety, self-doubt, or unhelpful thinking patterns. My approach is compassionate, practical, and focused on helping you live a meaningful life guided by your values.

The Life Practice is a space for people who want support with being human.

Life can feel heavy, confusing, or stuck at times — even when things look “fine” on the outside. You might be navigating anxiety, self-doubt, big decisions, difficult emotions, or just a sense that something isn’t quite working. You don’t need a diagnosis or a crisis to come here. You just need a life you’re trying to live.

ACT Work

My work is grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which means I focus less on “fixing” you and more on helping you build a meaningful, workable relationship with your thoughts, feelings, and experiences — so you can move toward what matters to you.

Learn what ACT is all about here.

“Life opens up when you stop fighting your inner world and start moving towards what matters.”

Stephen Renwick

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a modern, evidence-based approach to therapy that helps you live a meaningful, fulfilling life, even when things feel difficult.

ACT recognises that painful thoughts and emotions are a normal part of being human. Rather than trying to eliminate or “fix” these experiences, ACT helps you change how you respond to them – so they no longer control your life.

How ACT works

ACT focuses on building psychological flexibility: the ability to stay present, adapt to challenges, and take action guided by what truly matters to you.

In therapy, you will learn how to:

  • Make space for difficult thoughts and emotions instead of fighting them
  • Step back from unhelpful thinking patterns and self-criticism
  • Become more present and grounded in the moment
  • Develop a healthier relationship with yourself
  • Clarify your personal values – what really matters in your life
  • Take meaningful action, even when things feel uncomfortable

What ACT can help with

ACT is widely used to support people experiencing:

  • Anxiety and panic
  • Low mood and depression
  • Stress and overwhelm
  • Overthinking and rumination
  • Low confidence and self-doubt
  • Life transitions, burnout, or feeling “stuck”
  • Ongoing emotional difficulties that won’t simply go away

ACT does not aim to remove all discomfort from life. Instead, it helps you stop putting your life on hold and start living alongside your thoughts and feelings.

Is ACT right for you?

ACT may be a good fit if you:

  • Feel stuck or held back by anxiety, fear, or self-doubt
  • Have tried “positive thinking” or fighting your thoughts without success
  • Want a values-driven, practical approach to therapy
  • Are ready to make small but meaningful changes in your life
